Metal Casino to conquer the Spanish market
When Spiffbet acquired Metal Casino the brand’s innovative community-based approach had to be adapted to a new regulatory reality and the casino was facing a migration to a new platform. A year later Metal Casino is back on track, with a design face lift and a new platform. Loyal fans of the brand in the UK and Sweden have returned and now Spiffbet is taking the brand to the Spanish market.
The Spanish online casino market has exhibited a stable growth in the last couple of years. Although Covid-19 resulted in a decline in betting, the Spanish market gross gaming revenue (GGR) grew from €748m 2019 to over €850m in 2020, according to Spain’s gambling regulator, the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego.
During spring, all content on Metal Casino have undergone a major overhaul with a new frontend. In parallel all content has been translated into Spanish. In addition, the design of the casino has also been altered to appeal to Spanish players, without compromising Metal Casino’s recognisable style. Marielle Tengström, Brand Manager at Metal Casino since 2017, is excited about the Spanish expansion – ”We have been working hard with licensing, design, and translations to make this expansion possible, and we are looking forward to breaking new ground.”
The adaption of the Metal Casino site to Spanish is a step toward a potential expansion in Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. Tengström continues: “We know that our brand works worldwide and has great potential in most markets. Almost half a billion people have Spanish as their native language. Spain is just a first but crucial step on the way. Rock and metal music is huge in Spain and Latin America, and we have high hopes that Metal Casino will be well received among the metal fans in those markets.”
Spiffbet’s CEO Henrik Svensson is delighted with the launch of the brand in Spain: “The acquisition of Metal Casino has thus far been very good for Spiffbet. The first step was the platform migration in the autumn of 2020. We also cut costs significantly and honed our services. Already in the first quarter this year, we reached an operational break-even for Metal Casino. We are confident that our launch in Spain will improve the Spiffbet’s margins even further and provide a bridgehead to Latin America for our BC2 business.”
